What can i tell my mother to get out of this?
Ok, my mom was having a affair with my dads best friend for like 10 years now because my dad has a lot of problems such as drinking, arguing, ect… i dont want to list them call because it would fill up the page…

SO she had an affair and is trying to end it and im in my senior year of 12th grade and she is trying me to do the dirty work for her. The man my mom is having an affair with has a business with my dad and he said if she breaks up with him, he will sell the business and tell my dad whats been happening for the past 10 years. He is also saying move out of the house, get an apartment, and he WONT live with us, he will live with his family. He will just support us and buy food. This will basically hurt my dad real bad because he has a heart problem and cant support himself with the money he gets from his business. My mom is currently working 2 jobs to support the family.

So my mom is telling me to tell the man she is having an affair with that i dont want to live like this anymore and when i turn 18 i want to leave, and there are a lot of family problems right now and i dont want to do this, and i want to flip burgers for the rest of my life and crap like that. BTW, all this im supposed to tell him is untrue and i will go to college and im planning to make a six figure salary. She wants me to basically do the dirty work and end it for her but i really dont want to because it makes me feel bad inside. I told her that i dont want to say this but she said i have to and she called him and told him that i said all this stuff and i couldnt deny it when he called me and asked me that and he gave me a lecture on the phone for like an hour. I couldnt even hang up.

What could i do to get myself out of this mess. I dont want to fix the mess my mom started. What do i tell her?

She cant get a divorce with my dad. I dont want to do her dirty work. If she breaks up with that man, it will just create troubles. What do i do? She really wants to end the affair because its giving her a lot of stress and she is starting to talk to my dad a lot once more and she doesnt want to talk to that man anymore because he lies way too much.

Is America really the "land of the brave" and "home of the free" anymore? (Was it ever?)?
Or have we become mall-crawling, Wii- tethered, media brainwashed automatons who can be easily manipulated by corporate corruption and Machiavellian politicians? Is our refusal to face the harsh realities of living in a society ruled by wealth our death sentence? Or have the corporate and financial sector bailouts started waking us up to the fact that " all is takes for evil men/women to succeed is for good men/women to remain silent"?

Do we live in a society where our "leaders" pay lip service to democratic ideals such as "freedom" and "equality" while obviously sucking up to corporate interests at every possible opportunity? Has this country been taken away from by the powers-that-be because we have allowed ourselves to be lulled into a state of passivity and dependency on those same profit driven entities that are encouraging us to become a nation of timid, overweight, dumbed down shadows of what Americans used to be? Or have we always been this way, maybe for other reasons in the past?

Are we truly gullible, spineless, "sheeple" bloated by materialism and lobotomized by the corporate run media? Are there actually any "rugged individualists" anymore, who aren’t afraid to buck the status quo, or voice opinions that are critical of the status quo?

Are we no longer a people that care about liberty and freedom to speak our minds? Or is it that we have NEVER been as free as we have always been told? What about minorities? What about the poverty-stricken? Is it REALLY true that we are all equal and equally free?

Or has this all been just a Big Lie drilled into us from birth by our government and the corporate interests which dictate its policies????

*Footnote: It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to detect my bias, here. The majority of people on this earth DO have a bias, although perhaps not all. This is just a disclaimer to let you know that I don’t expect you to agree with me, but if you DON"T, It would really help me to make this whole thing objective by telling me WHY you disagree? Deal?

It is "the land of the free and the home of the brave". The problem is dumb people like you who can’t even quote the national anthem correctly but think they can solve all the problems. The whole world has problems and most countries have are a lot worse off than America. Things will never really change because we have beaten natural selection so stupid people lead to more stupid people. We have become to reactive, we only start thinking about fixing things when they have gotten so complicated and bad that it is too late to really change them without a total overhaul.

Jurassic Park IIIJurassic Park III (2001)

IMDB rating: 5.60

Plot: Eight years after the InGen incident, Dr. Alan Grant is happy with his life far from any dinosaurs other than fossilized. Unfortunately, he is extremely short in research money, and therefore accepts the offer of wealthy businessman Paul Kirby: A low flight over isolated Isla Sorna, where InGen’s second research site was located, and Dr. Grant can fund his future research for a long time. What Dr. Grant didn’t know is that Kirby just needs a dinosaur expert to help him and his wife find their 14-year-old son Eric, who crashed on the island while paragliding. What he did suspect, but never wanted to witness, is that the Velociraptors have evolved into a communicating species (and seemingly all along had the capability to do so), now being smarter than primates.

Do I let my 6 year old son watch Jurassic Park?
My son has just turned 6. For a month now there have been advertisements on Cartoon Connection (Kids cable Channel) for Jurassic Park. It is rated PG but I’m not so sure. I’ve let him watch a few M movies like Star Wars II and III, the latest Harry Potter movies that are out on video and Top Gun (I always fast forward through the sex scene). But Jurassic Park looks very real and there are real people and blood with limbs flying and all sorts of things.

This movie has been advertised at least once during my sons limited TV time and it’s quite annoying. He always asks if he can watch it and I always say We’ll see. But it is on tomorrow at 4pm and I’m still undecided. He loves Dinosaurs he’s at that stage but it is so real it scared me when I saw it when it first came out.
He has seen Dinosaur many times and loves it. Star Wars and Harry Potter did not scare him but Spiderwick did. I wish I had watched that before I let him watch it because I had no idea what it was like.

The problem is that when he sees the add they play the huge Dino poo and he is very excited about that. I had always wanted to watch Jurassic Park with him but I was going to wait a few more years.
I might actually ring the network and see if they have edited it.
You’ve let your 5 year old watch Transporter?????
God my kids are not allowed to watch The Simpsons.
Hey you know you could get a DVD edit program and edit out all the bits you don’t want him to see.
I wasn’t allowed to watch anything like the simpsons until I was 15. I wouldn’t have been allowed to watch Jurassic Park when I was my sons age. I personally think that most parents these days a too soft on what they let their kids watch. I worked in child care and you could always tell the kids who’s parents let them watch what ever and the ones that weren’t.

I let my daughter watch Harry Potter, but I will not let her watch Jurassic Park for the reason you mentioned - it looks too real. The people who made it did an excellent job at that.

If your son got a little scared from Star Wars or Harry Potter, I would not let him watch Jurassic Park. But if he handles stuff like that well … I’d just warn him that although the movie is fake, it looks very real and even scared you. Then let him decide.

I am curious, has he seen Dinosaur? I think it’s a Disney movie and it’s about the scariest Dinosaur movie I will let my 6 year old watch. If I were in your shoes - I would find a movie like Dinosaur that he hasn’t seen yet (if one exists) and tell him that we will be watching that tomorrow night and he can see Jurassic Park when he is 7 or 8.

Good luck making the right decision. I have noticed that what I found scary as a 9 year old doesn’t always scare my 6 year old. But some things I wouldn’t even think about freak her out. They are their own little people with their own sets of fears.

I watched Jurassic Park all the time when i was a little, It made me want to be a palaeontologist for a while actually.
Michael L | Apr 22, 2009

There is a great website called www.kids-in-mind.com that breaks down movies and tells you exactly what is in it that you might find objectionable. I routinely use this site when I am unsure whether or not to let my children watch a particular movie.
chicky | Apr 22, 2009

I don’t know what country you’re in, but in America Jurassic Park is rated PG-13 (OK for older kids), Star Wars II is PG (OK for most kids), and Star Wars III is PG-13, and Top Gun is PG, so obviously the ratings are different.

However, if it’s showing on TV and is rated lower than Star Wars III, then most of the bloody gory parts will be edited out, especially to suit the age of the channel’s viewership.

Also, if he watches it on a small TV screen with the lights on, it’s not going to be anywhere near as scary as it probably was if you saw it in a movie theater on a big screen with the lights turned down and the sound turned up. Also, perhaps if you get him a stuffed dinosaur to watch the movie with, it might help it be a bit less scary if he has a cute, fluffy one.
Twilight Princess | Apr 22, 2009

let him watch it ONLY if you are prepared to deal with nightmares, fear of the dark, etc. Maybe he can handle it, maybe he cant. I personally wouldnt let him.

Let him watch "land before time" instead if he wants something dinosaur-y.

And to the first answerer: HOW the heck is that movie "educational"?!? Its about as factual/scientific as disney movies…
bethyboo | Apr 22, 2009

my 5-year old boy loves all the Jurassic Park movies!
there were just a couple of ‘flying limbs scenes’ and they weren’t even that gory. so no bad effects on my son.
then again, he also loves The Transporter movies. lol!

my point, you’ll never know what it will be like for him until he tries, right? so just let him see the film. if he gets scared, he’ll get a couple of nightmares, then it’s over. the important thing is that he saw it and he experienced it. if he gets nervous halfway through the movie, you can always turn the tube off.

EDIT: btw, when Jurassic Park showed in Cartoon Network here, they had the bloody scenes edited out. so maybe they’ll get edited out in your network, too.

EDIT2: haha! take it easy! The Transporter’s on dvd so i just forward it to the car chase scenes which he likes. he has not seen the ‘baaad’ scenes there. he can only watch that movie when i’m around.
gothika | Apr 22, 2009

I think 6 years old is fine to see Jurrasic Park. If it were a girl, then probably no. I watched movies similar to JP when I was his age.

Give him nightmares? lol Comon bethyboo. It aint gonna give him nightmares. Espeically if he has no fear of the dark now and at the age
of 6 he shouldn’t be having any fears.
