What can I do to help my cat?
My kitten suddenly became sick. I went out of town Friday and left her in my house. My mom came by and she got out, which is o.k. because she goes out all the time. I came home Saturday and noticed she seemed different, but I was in a hurry to leave for my sisters birthday dinner. That night I couldn’t find her, then this morning she was walking down the hallway and I noticed she was walking funny. She looked as if she felt bad and walked really slow and shaky. She has gotten worse throughout today. I think she got into something outside, but we normally keep poisons away or up. I live on a farm that my dad works and he sometimes leaves stuff out so I walked around and found a bucket with water and something sludgy. I smelled it and think it was diesel fuel and rain water. I am afraid she drank some. She is very ill and has a smell to her like death. There are no after hours veterinarians in my town unless it is a large animal. I feel she will die tonight so I have made her a bed and covered her up to stay warm. What else should I do?
sounds like there’s not much else to do except try and get the vet for larger animals to take a look anyway. Are you sure there’s no emergency vet’s office around? check yellow pages, internet, and call the horse and cattle vet anyway, maybe they’ll do you a favor.

Call your vet anyway and leave a voicemail. Vets do actually check their voicemail, just in case.

In fact, when I suspected my cat was poisoned a few months ago I arranged to have it driven 120 miles to the emergency clinic in the city where they had the specialized equipment to handle such a case. So save the excuses – they don’t work here. If you truly wish this animal to survive you have to prove it and do something about it. I refuse to counsel anyone that will let an animal die when there are alternatives available to them."
